Steve Earle
South Nashville Blues (Acoustic Live)

Townes van Zandt said there's two kinds of music
There’s the blues and there's the zip-a-dee-doo-dah
And this ain't zip-a-dee-doo-dah

Went downtown, it was just to ease my pain
Went downtown just to ease my pain
I ended up out walkin’ in the rain

I took my pistol and a hundred dollar bill
Took my pistol and a hundred dollar bill
Had everything I need to get me killed

Now, the Southside girls, they suit me just fine
The Southside girls, they suit me just fine
Long as I got money, they don't whine (That's important)

Now, the devil lives on Lеwis Street, I swear
He lives right down on Lеwis Street, I swear
I seen him rocking in his rocking chair

I start way up top of Lewis Street
And I walk down to the end
I start way up top, I walk down to the end
Go way down in the bottoms, I come back up again

My mama told me, papa too
They both talked 'til they turned blue
But I got them old South Nashville blues again
Can't be satisfied until they lock me up again
Thanks
Thank you very much
Now, that's a pretty good song, I'm proud of that song, I sing it all over the world and I have for a while now
Um, but I did realize almost instantly after I made it up that it contained a nearly fatal flaw
And that is it has a tendency to make that particular part of my life sound like a lot more fuckin' fun than it really was, um
Especially the bit right at the end there
So what I do, and what I’ve done for the last twenty-eight years last September 13th, so that means it’s almost twenty-nine
What I do to keep from endin' up back where I started again, um
Suggest that whenever I sing that song, it’s probably a good idea if I sing this song because, uh, well, lest I forget, so
Welcome to my nightmare
