J. R. R. Tolkien
In Western Lands
In western lands, where hides the sun
The flowers well may bloom again in spring
The trees may bud, and all the rivers run
The lark ascend, the merry finches sing
Or maybe there it shines a cloudless night
Where all the glowing beeches bear
The elven stars as jewels white
Amid the tresses of their branching hair

Now it is here at journey's end I lie
In rough despair, and darkness buried deep
Beyond the reach of towers strong and high
Beyond the bound of all the mountains steep
Yet high above all shadows rides the sun
And there the stars forever dwell
And I will not say that the day is done
Nor will I ever bid the stars farewell

In all the stories, or all the ones that mattered
Wherein all hope for happy ends seemed gone
The folk within them had their chance for turning back
But always found some reason to hold on
Someday I know the sun will shine the clearer
I know this shadow is just a passing thing
And that the good is ever worth the fighting for
And I will see the flowers rise again in spring
This world has got some good, and it's worth fighting for
And this shadow... it's just a passing thing
