Gran.
[Intro]
I called in to see her today at the home where she now stays
I took her a couple of books and some magazines
I put my coat over the chair, I said, "Hey Gran, it's me, I'm here
I'm just making sure you got everything you need"

[Verse 1]
We sat and talked for a while, you know she's got the most amazing smile
And I told her about all the things that I'd been up to
Well she said it looks like rain and suddenly she seemed to change
And with a distant stare, she asks, "Who are you?"

[Chorus]
Well, it felt like an arrow through the heart, those words, they hit so hard
And it seems to happen a lot more frequently
Wish there was something more I could do
To stop what she's going through
But I can't, so I just say, "Hey Gran, it's me"

[Verse 2]
She looked around the room and said, "My grandson's coming soon
He's gonna bring some books, he knows I like to read
He might bring his brother Ben, it sure would be nice to see them again
Together, just us three"

[Verse 3]
Well we've been here before, no point explaining anymore
Not with her fading memory, she's getting worse, of that I'm sure
Ben passed way back in '94 and I have to remind her every time we meet
[Verse 4]
And it still comes as a massive blow, she's fading fast and I don't know
What it is that I'm supposed to do, I'm looking out now at the rain Beating hard on the window pane and again she asks, "Who are you?"

[Verse 5]
Now I'm scared, for in the passage of time
Will I start to lose my mind?
Will all my memories become a foggy blur?
Who knows if that will be so and if it happens, I won't know
I'll just be an empty shell like her

[Chorus]
Well, it felt like an arrow through the heart, these words, they'll hit so hard
And it seems to happen a lot more frequently
Wish there was something more I could do
To stop what she's going through
But I can't, so I just say, "Hey Gran, it's me"
