Tyler is attempting to escape, across all of their music, from the fictional city of Dema. Dema is a city on the world of Trench (Yep, that's right - Trench is an album by twenty one pilots).
Why is he escaping? Dema is not a nice place, quite simply. It's what's called 'totalitarianism'. Dema is controlled by nine Bishops (Who are the Bishops?), who encourage the religion of 'Vialism'. You can find out more about Vialism here!
