James Blake
Ode to the Electricity Bill
Oh, mighty bill upon my door
You haunt my wallet more and more
Each month you rise, you never fall
A silent thief, yet seen by all
The lights I left on late at night
The TV’s glow, the fridge’s bite
The AC hums soft and low
All tally up—oh, woe, oh!
I vow to change, to be more wise
To switch things off and downsize
Yet still, you come with bold numbers
Demanding payment, fierce and cold
Oh, a cruel reminder of my ways
A monster built from wasted days
Yet still, I pay—what choice have I?
Lest I sit in the dark and cry
For quick updates, no need to chill
I check my Electricity Bill!
